Maury Tripp

Obituary

Longtime Saratoga resident Dr. Maurice Tripp died on Sept. 6, 1999 in Bainbridge Island, Wash., where he was residing. He was 83.

Tripp was born on July 12, 1916, in Holton, Kan., and grew up in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated from high school in 1933. He later attended the Colorado School of Mines, where he obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in geological engineering. He also held a doctoral degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Balancing his academic and scientific interests was his lifelong devotion to the Boy Scouts of America. He served the Scouting movement at all levels, from local adult leader to member of the National Council.

Survivors include former wife Catherine Burr Tripp of Bainbridge Island; daughters Tinka Hall, Elizabeth B. Tripp and Molly Griest, all of Bainbridge Island, and Wendy Tripp Marino of Los Gatos; sons Maurice "Maury" Tripp Jr. of Los Gatos, David G. Tripp of San Jose and Timothy L. Tripp of Bainbridge Island; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
