Junior Leader Training -- White Stag Leadership Development

Information for Youth

White Stag summer camp is a fun week of hiking, camping, campfires, outdoor games. yells, cheers, singing, and practicing the skills of leadership. White Stag helps you develop a specific set of eleven leadership skills.

White Stag offers youth 10½-18 a challenging week-long leadership development experience. Ask any teen who has been to White Stag camp what they enjoyed most, and they will say, "It's fun." But don't expect to hang out by the pool and spend time at the snack bar. You won't have any free time to speak of. You'll be busy virtually every moment with a variety of challenging leadership activities. And of course there's camping, backpacking, and a lot of team-building activities.

Whether you know anyone in camp or not, you'll be mixed together with other teens and make friends fast. Challenged to work together to solve problems, you'll prepare food, pitch camp, and get hands-on experience learning leadership skills with other teens. Reserve your spot now.

"Yeah, this was an awesome camp! I really had a lot of fun! And I learned so much too, everything from knots and lashings to first aid to firebuilding."

Camp Phases

Depending on your age, skill level, and grade level, you can attend one of three phases:

Leadership Skills

White Stag believes in leadership development by design. We know that good leaders never stop learning. We constantly check to see how we are progressing.

We believe you probably already know something about leadership. We structure learning to begin with what you already know, and help you improve what you don't know. We call this process manager of learning.

We focus on the basics. Depending on your age, you will learn parts of eleven leadership competencies. And you will get a chance to apply some of these new skills at home.

What Makes White Stag Distinctive

We recognize that youth learn best when your whole body and mind is engaged. We provide a hands-on, outdoors, challenging learning experience.

We create an environment where it's safe for you to try out new behaviors, to be the best they can be. We teach that the opposite of success is not failure, but to quit.

Just like in school, boys and girls learn together. Adults are always available to help with any differences or challenges that might arise.

We take a whole-person approach to learning. You get to learn leadership with your hands by practicing them in the outdoors, by your head using the leadership skills, and by your heart by taking part in our spirit and traditions.
